This final paper will consist of the following parts:
A cover sheet
An overall introduction
Three main points
An overall conclusion
Works cited paper
You will be expected to use at least one outside source suitable for an academic paper, direct quotes from the Orphan Train and citation done properly according to APA standards.
The first step is to decide on your topic and then craft a thesis statement.
Once you have that, you can outline the paper and begin to research your paper.
We will share our outlines in class and give suggestion on how to find information, facts and data for your paper.
This week there will be a quiz on plagiarism and we will briefly look at how to access the data bases at Paley Library.
By the end of the week, everyone should have completed a first draft.
A hard copy will be handed in on Friday and I will return it with comments by Monday.
Introduction:
Now that you have your approved outline, you can begin a rough draft of your introduction.
Please keep in mind that you will need to return to this introduction and revise it after you have a completed first draft, or as you make changes in your paper.
First paragraph: hook
Because you have time you can find an appropriate quote, interesting piece of information from your research, or provocative question for your reader.
You need to explain the topic of the essay
Exactly what your thesis will entail
How this paper will be organized
An indication of your conclusion
Second paragraph: what questions will you address and answer in this paper?
Remember you should have three main points, so this section is designed so that you reader recognizes the importance, structure and relevance of your essay to your thesis.
Third paragraph advises your reader of your conclusion and is the transition into the body of the paper.
As a rule, there are no quotations or citations in the introduction, unless you are using a famous quote or wish to begin with a striking statement from an authority in the field.
Body of the Paper
- You need an introduction to this first section:
Include the topic of this part of your paper
Explain how this relates to your working thesis
Explain how this section will be organized
(if you can, supply your reader with an indication of the conclusion of this section)
Language and vocabulary should not be identical to that found in the introduction.
2.You need to provide evidence (quotes, paraphrase, summary) for this section

Why at this point of the paper?
Why this particular quote?
After you give the evidence, please analyze it in your own words.
What inferences can you draw?
What are the implications of the author’s position?
How does this relate back to your thesis?
Remember at least 65% of the paper needs to be your own ideas and original insights, and this is an excellent way to insure that you reach that goal.

Conclusion or Final Reflection:
This will be 3 paragraphs and mirrors the structure of your paper.
- Explain what you have learned about your thesis and topic
Again demonstrating breath and depth of expanded vocabulary.
- Go back to the each part and give your reaction to each section:
This can include the main point (be sure to vary the vocabulary)
Confirmed, the most surprising finding or interesting thing covered
- Final paragraph: challenge to your reader
