’s Self-Care Model
A 6 page paper describing Dorothy Orem’s model of self care, followed by a discussion of the model’s advantages and disadvantages. In this age of cost containment effort, self-care carries the promise of reducing the cost of direct patient care in those settings in which it can be used. Some of these situations include diabetic testing, wound care, or self-catheterization at home, among others. Though cost savings can be great, perhaps the greatest advantage is the psychological benefit that the individual gains from having some measure of control over his own illness and its management, which can equate to better patient outcomes. Bibliography lists 4 sources.
