This unit you have been exploring the role that community oriented policing, and restorative justice play in promoting healthy relationships between law enforcement and the neighborhoods they service. As successful as this model has been, police policies and procedures can work against the collaborative relationship established between citizens and the police.
For this Assignment please find two newspapers articles. One article should highlight a successful collaboration between the police and a community they serve which you feel exemplifies community oriented policing and/or principles of restorative justice. The second article should highlight a how police procedure, policy or even the decisions of an individual officer work against the model of community policing. In a 300-500 word response in the thread to the left titled “Assignment 2: Research Assignment,” please summarize what each story is about and how one article demonstrates successful community oriented policing while the other demonstrates unsuccessful community oriented policing.
