Exercise 2: Ciliary Movement in Paramecium. In this exercise, you will try to visualize the cila that are on the outside of the paramecium cell. In order to best observe the cilia, you will have to use the oil immersion lens. Prepare a slide of paramecium culture as in Exercise 1 (you do not have to add the yeast though). If you can find a paramecium from Exercise I that slows down enough, you can use that as well. a) Describe the movement of the cilia. Are they all coordinated together or independent? Do they move in both directions or only in one direction? Do they appear to rotate or move in a wave-like manner? Draw a picture of what you see and LABEL the cilia.
